Best Audi’s To Modify

Audi is a German luxury automobile manufacturer that is known for its high-performance vehicles and its signature all-wheel drive system, Quattro. Quattro was first introduced in the 1980s and quickly revolutionized the world of rally racing, giving Audi a significant advantage over its competitors.

Today, most Audis come with Quattro for North America and Canada, and with time they start to depreciate in value, which is great for someone looking to get into car mods. These cars are luxurious, pack a lot of power out of the box, and can be very easily tuned.

Audi 1.8T or Anything With a TFSI Engine

The Audi 1.8T and 2.0T engines, which arrived in North America and Canada with the B5 A4, hold a special place in the hearts of Audi enthusiasts. These engines, known for their decent reliability and inline-four configuration, are notably the most straightforward Audi engines to modify.

Their versatility is showcased by the popular trend among enthusiasts of swapping these engines into smaller models, such as the A3. It's a common, amusing sight to see Audi lovers with multiple Audis from this generation parked in their driveways. Often, it's more economical to purchase a used Audi with these engines than to repair a current model.

These Audis represent a perfect blend of affordability and modifiability, often found for less than $3,000, making them ideal for hands-on enthusiasts looking to dive into customization. The modification possibilities, while not excessively complex, are incredibly satisfying.

Key upgrades include bigger turbo, intercooler, catless downpipes, exhaust tuning, and chip tuning. These relatively straightforward modifications can significantly enhance the car's performance, offering a delightful project that’s both affordable and immensely enjoyable for those passionate about tuning and personalizing their vehicles.

Audi S4 2000

First introduced in 1994, the Audi A4 B5 positioned itself as Audi's premium sedan offering. Its success in the market is evident, but it might not have catered to the desires of hardcore automobile aficionados.

Recognizing this, Audi presented its S4 in 1997, rooted in the A4 B5 design. Armed with a twin-turbocharged 2.7-liter V6 engine, this second iteration of the Audi S4 was a treat for adrenaline seekers. Audi went with bigger and bigger engines as time went on but came back to the same V6 with its latest B9.5 S5.

The Audi 2.7T engine came from the factory with forged pistons, though its real Achilles heel were the connecting rods. Throughout the years, enthusiasts have experimented and really tested the power potential of the 2.7t. The standard seems to be a “stage 3” build, which consists of KO4 turbos, downpipes, and various fueling components.

Getting hands on one isn't really easy as these models aren't easy to find and they're also not very much compliant with a lot of the gas regulations for most states. Your best bet with this is to build a race car out of a dirt cheap S4 2000, if you find one.

The Original Audi Quattro

If you though getting hands on a S4 2000 was hard, getting to see an Audi Quattro is like winning the lottery. Most of them are either being sold on auctions at pristine condition or in a garage ready for a better tune. This car is such a symbol for Audi freaks it never goes unnoticed. For those who can afford, and be lucky enough to find one of these the Audi Quattro is a dream project.

The headlines between 1980 and 1991 wrote that the original Audi Quattro had to walk so other car manufacturers could run. It was a a hell of a machine, cutting through snow as if it was butter.

Here is the teaster: If you want the same car in a newer Audi shell, just buy the TT-RS. Its roots originate from the Audi Quattro and let me tell you, its a pocket rocket out the factory. Add in a chip tune, downpipes, better air intake and you're set with a hatchback that can outperform most cars of its range.

Audi C7 A7 3.0T & C7 A6 3.0T

The C7 generation of the Audi A7 and A6 has emerged as an unexpectedly affordable option in the used car market, often overlooked by those seeking a project car. However, these models harbor a hidden gem under their hoods: the 3.0T engine. This powertrain not only delivers impressive performance straight out of the gate but is also known for its reliability, making it an excellent candidate for modifications.

Starting with a solid base of 310 horsepower, these supercharged engines can be easily enhanced. A simple chip tune can push the power output into the 400-horsepower range, a significant increase that can transform the driving experience.

Additionally, upgrading the exhaust system not only improves performance but also enhances the auditory experience, delivering the robust, satisfying sounds that enthusiasts crave.

When these enhancements are combined with our high-quality downpipes, the result is a vehicle that can confidently take on rivals in its class. The C7 Audi A7 and A6, with these modifications, become sleepers - cars that look unassuming but pack a powerful punch, capable of surprising unsuspecting competitors with their enhanced performance.

D4 & D4.5 Audi S8

The Audi S8, specifically the D4 and D4.5 models produced between 2012 and 2018, represents an intriguing blend of opulence and formidable power. At the heart of this luxury sedan lies a 4.0L twin-turbo V8 engine, a powerhouse that, despite its complexity and the reluctance of many mechanics to work on it, offers immense potential for performance enhancement.

One of the most notable aspects of these models is their rapid depreciation, which ironically makes them an attractive buy for those looking to acquire a high-end vehicle at a more accessible price point.

This factor, combined with the engine's inherent capabilities, makes the S8 a tantalizing project for car enthusiasts. With relatively straightforward modifications such as a chip tune and upgraded downpipes, the engine's output can skyrocket to around 750 horsepower.

This blend of luxury, aggressive styling, and exceptional power output gives the Audi S8 an aura akin to that of a vehicle suited for a high-profile gangster or a movie character - a car that makes a statement both in terms of its appearance and its performance. For those in the know, the S8 in these model years represents an opportunity to own and customize a vehicle that delivers top-tier luxury and exhilarating power at a fraction of its original cost.
